Treasures from Our Past
Located in Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood, St. John the Evangelist Parish was established in 1917 with Fr. William Quigley as its founding pastor. The first Masses were celebrated in a local amusement hall at 85th Street and Greenwood Avenue.
From those early days, the parish has grown into a vibrant faith community of over 1,000 households. United in worship and rooted in the Gospel, parishioners share their time, talent, and treasure—both within the community and through ministries that reach across the globe.
The Bell Tower
The bell tower is a striking example of Romanesque Revival architecture built in 1931 by architect Abraham Albertson. As shown in this picture, the dome of the bell tower was replaced in 2013.
